Implementing an introductory exercise course for all UMBC students to take as a GEP credit will provide another avenue for students to reduce their overall academic stress. While similar exercise courses exist, this newly implemented course prioritizes building regular exercise habits for students to remain active in an accommodating environment to their varying levels of experience in utilizing gym equipment and other services available. The course meets twice a week in the RAC with multiple times offered throughout the mornings and evenings. The multiple course availability times throughout the day allow for students to find time in their rigorous academic schedule to set aside a time to focus on maintaining their physical health. The intended launch semester for this introductory course is Spring 2020 as a trial period to evaluate areas that can be improved for future semesters and gauge student responses regarding the level of interest and commitment to building healthy exercise habits.
